Is PCIA a school only for highly capable students?

Not at all. PCIA is a high school for any student interested in an academically rigorous, supportive and completely personalized College in the High School (CiHS) experience that will prepare them for college, career and beyond. Our students come from MASD, as well as other nearby non-high school districts, and have a variety of interests and backgrounds.

Does PCIA have student transportation available?

Yes. PCIA offers transportation to students who are residents of Mill A or Mount Pleasant School Districts.

Do PCIA students pay tuition or fees?

No. PCIA is a tuition-free public high school program. All College in the High School costs, including tuition, textbooks and students fees, are fully funded as part of our operating budget.

How is College in the High School different from Running Start?

In a College in the High School programs, students in grades 10-12 enroll in college courses that are offered at their high school in partnership with a higher education institution, such as a nearby community college. Running Start allows academically qualified students in grades 11-12 to take college courses online or on the campus of the college offering the courses.

At PCIA, students have the pleasure of being able to work on college credit right at their own high school while fulfilling their graduation requirements at the same time. The College in the High School program is paid for by the state of Washington, whereas Running Start programs typically require students to pay tuition, textbooks and fees. These expenses are already paid for for students enrolled at PCIA.

What grade would I be in if I transfer to PCIA from my current high school?

Once you apply, PCIA’s academic advisor will review your official high school transcripts and place you in the grade and classes that are most appropriate for you.

May students who live in Oregon enroll in Pacific Crest Innovation Academy?

No, unfortunately. Because PCIA is a tuition-free public school funded through the state of Washington, only students who reside in Washington are eligible to enroll.

May students who live in other Washington school districts enroll at PCIA?

Yes! Students who reside in our host district, Mill A School District, and the neighboring Mount Pleasant School District, receive admission priority. Students who reside in other school districts in the state of Washington are eligible to enroll on a space-available basis.

How many college classes does PCIA offer?

PCIA offers 34 college-level classes that are equivalent to actual college classes and allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. By completing enough College in the High School courses, PCIA students have the opportunity to graduate with an Associate Transfer Degree through our partner Lower Columbia College. College course credits may also transfer to other colleges for credit; check with your college to find out what classes may be transferable for you.

Is PCIA an "academy" for students who need to play catch-up on their classes?

No. PCIA is a high school for students who are seeking a robust, personalized academic experience; the opportunity to earn free college credits; small, intimate class sizes for optimized learning; and hands-on learning to prepare you for a successful life after high school.

Is PCIA a charter school?

No. PCIA is a public, state-funded high school.
